Originally published in 1818 by Mary Shelley, Frankenstein has become one of the seminal works of fantasy and science fiction literature. However, it was Universal Pictures ’ 1931 film adaptation in particular that shaped the image of the monster as it is still widely recognised today.
The film Frankenstein is one of the works that helped establish Universal as a major force in horror cinema during the 1930s, alongside films such as Dracula and, later, The Invisible Man.
With this POP! No. 2141, Funko is celebrating the 95th anniversary of Universal’s *Frankenstein*, released in 1931. This commemorative version pays tribute to a monster who has become a true icon of pop culture and one of the historic cornerstones of the Universal Monsters collection.
