Origin and character lore

Suwako Moriya is a deity from the Touhou Project universe, a series of shoot ’em up games created by ZUN. She appears notably in *Mountain of Faith* and is closely associated with the Moriya Shrine.

Suwako is an ancient goddess of the earth and the mountains. After facing Kanako Yasaka, she eventually came to live alongside her within the Moriya Shrine, where the two deities share their influence and their followers.

She possesses powers associated with the earth, the formation of the landscape and certain natural elements. Her design is instantly recognisable thanks to her large hat adorned with two eyes, as well as her childlike appearance, which contrasts with her status as an ancient and powerful deity.

With her mysterious nature, her significance in the history of the Moriya Shrine and her particularly original design, Suwako Moriya has become one of the most beloved and recognisable characters in the Touhou Project.
