Origin and background of the Mushroom (Lore)

The Super Mushroom is one of the most iconic items in the Super Mario universe. First appearing in Super Mario Bros., it is one of the power-ups that Mario can collect during his adventures in the Mushroom Kingdom. In its classic form, it transforms little Mario into Super Mario, enabling him to grow taller and better withstand the dangers encountered throughout the levels.

Recognisable by its rounded cap adorned with large spots and its two black eyes, the Super Mushroom has, over the course of the series, become a true visual symbol of the Nintendo franchise. It appears alongside other iconic items such as the Fire Flower and the Super Star, and continues to play a central role in many games in the series.

This Paladone alarm clock thus transforms a historic Super Mario power-up into an everyday object, combining its distinctive silhouette with the functions of a clock, alarm and light.
