Origin and world of the character (Lore)
Initially assigned to command the Cardassian orbital station converted to Deep Space Nine after the occupation of the planet Bajor, Benjamin Sisko 's destiny is turned upside down by the discovery of the first known stable wormhole leading to the distant Gamma Quadrant. This major strategic discovery placed the station at the centre of galactic geopolitics and made Sisko the Emissary of the Prophets for the religious Bajoran people. Widowed and raising his son Jake alone, he proves to be an exceptional military leader and an outstanding diplomat. Faced with the existential threat of the Dominion Empire, he took command of the powerful warship USS Defiant, establishing himself as the pillar of the Federation resistance during the Dominion War.
