Origin and world of the character
The character of Shadow the Hedgehog made his first appearance in 2001 in the video game Sonic Adventure 2, developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega. Conceived by the brilliant and Machiavellian Professor Gerald Robotnik (Dr Eggman's grandfather), Shadow is the result of the ultimate genetic experiment to create the perfect living being. Although he shares Sonic's super-speed, he is distinguished by his dark attitude, his solitary style and his ability to manipulate the energy of Chaos emeralds using Chaos Control. Alongside him is a Dark Chao, an evolving and mischievous version of the little virtual "Chao" creatures that players can raise within the game. The evolution of a Dark Chao depends on the affection and influence of dark characters such as Shadow or Rouge, reflecting the moral balance and advanced interactivity that characterise this generation of games in the franchise.
