Character background and lore
Released in cinemas in 2001 by DreamWorks Animation, Shrek revolutionised animated cinema by subverting the traditional conventions of fairy tales with cynicism, humour and a modern twist. Shrek is a solitary green ogre who values his peace and quiet above all else in his beloved swamp. His peaceful routine is disrupted one day when Lord Farquaad decides to banish all magical creatures from his kingdom to his swamp.
To reclaim his territory, Shrek is forced to strike a deal and embark on a heroic quest alongside a chatty donkey: to rescue Princess Fiona, who is being held captive in a tower guarded by a dragon. This Premium figurine captures the film’s iconic opening scene, reminding us that behind his intimidating appearance and rustic ways, Shrek hides a big heart and a sensitivity that will enable him to find true love and an unshakeable friendship.
