Origin and background of the character
Released in 2001 by DreamWorks Animation, Shrek is a masterpiece of fantasy comedy that reimagined and parodied traditional fairy tales with irreverent humour. Donkey is a talkative, eccentric, hyperactive donkey with unshakeable optimism, who happens to cross paths with Shrek whilst he is fleeing from Lord Farquaad’s guards. Despite the solitary ogre’s initial irritation, Donkey forcefully establishes himself as his faithful sidekick on his quest to rescue Princess Fiona. Endearing and unforgettable, he has become one of pop culture’s most iconic figures, thanks in particular to his comic timing and his unlikely love story with the Dragon. This Funko Pop! figurine perfectly captures his infectious smile and the expressiveness of his gaze, making it ideal for rekindling nostalgia for this legendary saga.
