Origin and world of the character
The protagonist (canonically named Yu Narukami in derivative works) is the central hero of the critically acclaimed Japanese role-playing game Persona 4 Golden, developed by Atlus. A city-dwelling high school student sent to live with his uncle in the peaceful rural town of Inaba, his daily life is turned upside down when a series of mysterious murders coincides with the appearance of a local urban legend: the Midnight Channel, a television channel that turns itself on at midnight on rainy days. As he physically crosses the screen, he discovers a hazy, paranormal world populated by aggressive Shadows. As he confronts his own doubts, he awakens to the power of the Personas and materialises his original entity, Izanagi. At the head of the investigation group made up of his classmates, his unflappable calm and deep bonds of friendship (Social Links) seal the triumph of truth over destructive illusions.
