Character background and lore
Inspired by the One Piece series and its expanded universe, Shanks is a figure of mysterious origin who has spent much of his life at sea pursuing a single goal: to preserve the balance of the world and find his place amongst the four most powerful pirates in the multiverse. A former ship’s boy on the ship of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, he founded the Red-Haired Pirates and came of age amidst the greatest battles of the Grand Line, learning to conceal his immense power and absolute mastery of Haki behind a carefree demeanour and strict moral values to protect his friends. It was he who passed on his precious straw hat to the young Monkey D. Luffy after sacrificing his own left arm to save him from sea monsters. This marks the start of a gruelling, epic journey, during which the big-hearted emperor uses his determination to navigate political crises, becoming the indispensable, elite mediator needed to put an end to destructive conflicts such as the Marineford War.
