See Monkey D. Luffy as he emerges from the two-year time jump with this articulated S.H.Figuarts figure developed by Bandai Spirits / Tamashii Nations. This ‘Two Years Later’ version depicts the captain of the Straw Hat Crew as he reunites with his crewmates and prepares to enter the New World. The figure officially measures approximately 14.5 cm and features a redesigned articulation system to recreate the character’s particularly dynamic movements.

Luffy wears his iconic post-ellipse outfit: an open red jacket, blue shorts with light-coloured cuffs, a wide yellow sash-belt, sandals and his trademark straw hat. His torso reveals the large X-shaped scar he acquired during the events leading up to the ellipse. The slender proportions and sculpted clothing with dynamic effects capture the hero’s appearance at the start of the second major part of his adventure.

Bandai has paid particular attention to the articulation of this new version. The knee and waist joints have been redesigned to achieve a greater range of motion, particularly in crouching positions, whilst several flexible components help to minimise strain during action poses.

Character background and lore

Monkey D. Luffy is the captain and founder of the Straw Hat Pirates. Originally from the village of Fuchsia in the East Blue, he set sail with the ambition of travelling the Grand Line, discovering the legendary One Piece and becoming the Pirate King. His straw hat, given to him by Shanks the Red during his childhood, symbolises both this promise and his adventure.

The phrase ‘Two Years Later’ marks a major turning point in the story. Following the events of the Marineford Summit War, Luffy realises that his crew must become stronger before continuing their journey. The Straw Hat crew thus go their separate ways for two years of training, before reuniting on the Sabaody Archipelago and continuing their journey towards the New World. The official One Piece website specifically identifies this reunion after two years of training as the start of their journey through this new section of the Grand Line.

During this period, Luffy trains in particular to develop his mastery of Haki, complementing his physical abilities and the elastic powers that characterise his fighting style. On his return, his appearance has also changed: his red jacket remains open over his chest, now marked by a prominent X-shaped scar, whilst his belt and shorts make up the now-iconic look of his post-ellipse version.

This S.H.Figuarts figure specifically aims to capture this pivotal moment: Luffy after his two years of development, on the threshold of the New World. The improved articulation and various interchangeable expressions allow the figure to convey both his spontaneous personality and the more complex combat movements associated with this new phase of his adventure.
