ONE PIECE - Monkey D. Luffy Gear 5 - Figure Grandista 22cm

Discover Monkey D. Luffy in his Gear 5 form with this Grandista figurine, measuring approximately 22 cm, produced by Banpresto. Based on One Piece, this figure showcases one of the Straw Hat Crew captain’s most significant transformations in the large scale characteristic of the Grandista collection.

Luffy is depicted in a particularly dynamic pose, with his white hair, broad smile and the characteristic swirls that surround his body when he uses Gear 5. This appearance captures the character’s much freer and more unpredictable behaviour in this form, whilst offering a silhouette that is instantly recognisable on display.

Made from PVC, the figurine is marketed by BEM’S and stands 22 cm tall. Banpresto describes the Grandista range as a collection that seeks to push the boundaries of prize figures in terms of size, sculpting and colouring. The official One Piece website lists this same Grandista Gear 5 release as being approximately 21 cm tall, including the foot support piece.

Character background and lore

Monkey D. Luffy is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates and the central protagonist of One Piece, a series created by Eiichiro Oda. His journey across the Grand Line is driven by his ambition to find the legendary treasure known as One Piece and to become the Pirate King.

Gear 5 represents the awakening of the true power of his Devil Fruit. The fruit known to the world as the Gomu Gomu no Mi actually has another name: the Hito Hito no Mi, Model Nika, a Mythical Zoan linked to the figure of the Warrior of Liberation, Nika. The official One Piece website describes Gear 5 as the ‘pinnacle’ reached by Luffy following the awakening of this ability.

Luffy achieves this transformation during his battle against Kaido on Onigashima. His appearance changes dramatically: his hair and clothes turn white, whilst his body retains its elastic properties with considerably greater freedom of movement. Gear 5 also allows him to influence his surroundings, lending his battles a deliberately exaggerated and unpredictable quality.

This form is also associated with the ‘Drums of Liberation’ and the legend of Nika, a figure symbolising freedom and the ability to bring a smile to the oppressed. It therefore fits particularly well with Luffy’s personality and his constant refusal to see his friends or other peoples deprived of their freedom.

This 22 cm Grandista Monkey D. Luffy Gear 5 figurine therefore celebrates one of the major transformations of the One Piece hero, in a large format designed to capture the energy, smile and freedom that characterise this transformation.
