Meet Jiraiya, one of Konoha’s three legendary Sannin and Naruto Uzumaki’s mentor, with this POP! Animation No. 2565 figure produced by Funko. This version eschews spectacular ninja techniques to highlight another iconic facet of the character: his work as a writer. Funko depicts him with a book resting on his lap, as he writes in it. The figure stands approximately 11.7 cm tall.
The design captures Jiraiya’s instantly recognisable appearance from *Naruto Shippuden*, with his long, spiky white hair, his headband bearing the kanji for ‘oil’, the red markings extending beneath his eyes, and his traditional outfit dominated by red, green and grey. His seated posture and the open book create a deliberately calmer portrayal of the famous Toad Hermit, contrasting with the many figurines that show him in the midst of battle.
This depiction makes a direct reference to his role as an author. When he meets Naruto, Jiraiya explains, amongst other things, that he frequents the hot springs to find inspiration for his novels. The official Naruto website also notes that his espionage activities and research for his books take place alongside his shinobi missions.

Jiraiya is one of Konoha’s three legendary Sannin, alongside Tsunade and Orochimaru. All three were trained in their youth by the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi. Their prowess later earned them the title of Sannin following their exploits during the war and their confrontation with Hanzô of the Village of Ame. Jiraiya is particularly renowned for his Katon and Doton techniques, as well as his special bond with the toads of Mount Myôboku.
His encounter with Naruto Uzumaki marks a crucial milestone in the young ninja’s journey. Jiraiya gradually takes charge of his training, helping him to better control his chakra and, in particular, teaching him the Rasengan. Naruto officially becomes his disciple and subsequently accompanies him on a training journey lasting nearly three years, during which time their relationship develops into a genuine master-disciple bond.
Jiraiya was also the teacher of Minato Namikaze, the future Fourth Hokage, as well as Nagato, Konan and Yahiko when they were children. A prophecy from the Great Toad Hermit foretells that one of his pupils will play a decisive role in the future of the ninja world, making the passing on of knowledge to the next generation a central aspect of his story.
Behind his status as a legendary ninja, Jiraiya is also a writer. The official website notes that he draws inspiration for his works from his travels and intelligence-gathering activities in particular. This POP! No. 2565 specifically chooses to highlight this more everyday side of the character: Jiraiya focused on his book, rather than the Toad Hermit engaged in battle.
