Origin and backstory of the character (Lore)

Stitch, also known as Experiment 626, is an alien creature originally created to cause chaos. He first appeared in the Disney animated film *Lilo & Stitch*, released in 2002, in which he accidentally ends up on the island of Hawaii after escaping.

There he meets Lilo, a young Hawaiian girl who mistakes him for a strange dog and decides to adopt him. As their relationship develops, Stitch gradually discovers the importance of family, of caring for others, and the concept of ‘ohana’, which means that no one should be left behind or forgotten.

His mischievous behaviour, his instantly recognisable blue appearance and his transformation from a creature programmed to destroy into a true member of Lilo’s family have helped make Stitch one of the most popular Disney characters of his generation. Disney now describes him as a true cultural icon born with the original 2002 film.

This 40 × 60 cm Stitch foam mat brings the colourful and endearing world of Lilo & Stitch to life in a practical, compact and comfortable decorative accessory.
