Origin and background of the character
Released in 2005 and co-directed by Tim Burton and Mike Johnson, *Corpse Bride* is a masterpiece of stop-motion animation. The plot follows Victor Van Dort, a shy young man who, whilst rehearsing his wedding vows in a dark forest, accidentally slips a ring onto the finger of Emily, a young bride tragically murdered years earlier by her greedy fiancé. Drawn into the colourful and festive world of the dead, Victor discovers the touching story of Emily, a romantic soul on an eternal quest for peace and true love. In the magnificent final scene of redemption, Emily lets Victor go out of pure kindness, freeing herself from her past to transform into a myriad of magnificent butterflies in the moonlight. This figurine from the ‘Pop! Plus’ range captures this macabre poetry with infinite delicacy, featuring her bluish complexion and her legendary blue butterflies.
