Kirby is the iconic hero of the series bearing his name, created by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo.
This little pink character lives on Planet Pop, home to Dream Land, the kingdom that serves as the setting for many of his adventures. Nintendo presents him as one of Dream Land’s greatest heroes.
Beneath his particularly innocent appearance lies an adventurer with extraordinary abilities.
The most famous of these is his ability to suck up his enemies. Kirby can swallow numerous opponents and, in most of the games, copy their powers to gain new abilities.
Depending on the enemy he absorbs, he can fight with a sword, breathe fire, use ice, throw bombs or utilise many other transformations.
Nintendo also directly highlights his elastic body and his strange ability to absorb his opponents – powers he has used since his earliest adventures to protect Dream Land.
Kirby is also able to inflate his body to float in the air, a skill that has become an integral part of the series’ gameplay.
His adventures regularly pit him against threats far more formidable than his appearance might suggest. King Dadidou is one of his long-standing adversaries, although their relationship has evolved considerably over the course of the series.
Kirby can also count on several recurring allies, notably Meta Knight, Bandana Waddle Dee and, at times, King Dadidou himself. In *Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe*, for example, these characters can set off on an adventure together on Planet Pop.
Since his debut in 1992, Kirby has appeared in dozens of games and has become one of Nintendo’s most recognisable characters.
This large Sleep Together soft toy deliberately moves away from his many battles to highlight a side of the character that’s particularly fitting: Kirby lying comfortably, ready to enjoy a well-deserved rest after saving Dream Land yet again.
