KIKI'S DELIVERY SERVICE - Family Time - Foldable bag shupatto

This Shupatto ‘Family Moments’ foldable bag from Benelic combines the world of Kiki, the little witch, with the compact folding system developed for Shupatto reusable bags. Available in size M, it measures approximately 30 x 35 cm when unfolded and weighs just around 80 g. Its polyester construction makes it a lightweight bag ideal for shopping, everyday errands or carrying small personal items.

The design features a navy blue background adorned with a botanical motif inspired by the flowers surrounding Kiki’s family home. Amongst the foliage and small colourful flowers, Jiji, Lily and their kittens appear discreetly, hence the name ‘Family Moments’. The yellow handles and closure tab create a striking contrast with the dark background and add a bright touch to the overall design.

The distinctive feature of the Shupatto range is how quickly it folds away. After use, simply grasp both ends of the bag and pull them apart so that the pleated structure folds back almost automatically into a narrow strip. This strip can then be rolled up and held closed by the integrated press-stud tab. This system avoids the need to fold the bag several times before storing it.

When open, the bag features a wide opening and a flexible design that adapts to the contents being carried. The absence of a rigid base and the pleated structure allow the fabric to expand according to the volume of the items placed inside. When folded away, its compact size means it can easily be stored in a handbag, rucksack or glove compartment, so it’s always to hand for unexpected shopping trips.

Origin and backstory of the characters (Lore)

Kiki’s Delivery Service is an animated film directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli, adapted from the novel by Eiko Kadono. The story follows Kiki, a 13-year-old witch who, in keeping with tradition, must leave her family for a year to complete her apprenticeship far from home. She sets off accompanied by her black cat, Jiji, and chooses to settle in the coastal town of Koriko.

Thanks to her ability to fly on a broomstick, Kiki decides to set up a delivery service. Staying with Osono and her husband at their bakery, she gradually discovers independence, work and life in a big city. Her encounters with Tombo, Ursula and the residents of Koriko play a vital role in her development and help her find her place in this new environment.

Jiji has been with Kiki ever since she left home and acts as her companion, confidant and – at times – sarcastic observer of her adventures. In Koriko, he meets Lily, a white cat living nearby. Their relationship develops as the film progresses, and the final scenes show Jiji surrounded by Lily and their kittens.

The ‘Family Moments’ motif draws its inspiration precisely from this more peaceful aspect of the world. Jiji, Lily and their kittens are depicted amongst flowers inspired by the garden of Kiki’s family home. The design thus links the start of the young witch’s journey – marked by her departure from home – to the idea of a new family gradually forming around her faithful companion.
