Character background and lore

Reno Ichikawa is a young man who dreams of joining the Anti-Kaiju Defence Force, an organisation tasked with protecting the population from the monsters that regularly attack Japan. Before joining the Force, he works temporarily for Monster Sweeper, the company specialising in clearing away the remains of kaiju, where he meets Kafka Hibino. Initially rather critical of Kafka and his abandoned dream of becoming an officer, Reno gradually learns to respect his determination and character.

When Kafka gains the ability to transform into Kaiju No. 8, Reno becomes one of his first allies and helps him keep his secret whilst pursuing his own goal of joining the Defence Force. The two men then take part together in the recruitment exam and their first operations against the kaiju, their relationship gradually evolving into that of true partners.

As his training progresses, Reno demonstrates remarkable combat potential. He is eventually selected to become the wielder of Numbers Weapon 6, a weapon derived from Kaiju No. 6 and described as one of the most powerful and dangerous in the Defence Force’s arsenal. This progression illustrates the character’s development, from a determined young recruit to a fighter capable of wielding exceptional power.

This ‘The Brush’ figurine depicts Reno in his standard Defence Force kit, highlighting his role as a human fighter and his determination prior to the subsequent developments linked to Numbers Weapon 6.
