K-ON - Mio Akiyama - Figure SQ Figure 25cm

From K-ON!, this Banpresto figurine depicts Mio Akiyama, bassist of the band Ho-kago Tea Time, as part of the SQ Figure collection. Standing approximately 25 cm tall, it showcases the character in a pose directly linked to her role as a musician within the light music club. 

Mio is depicted in her school uniform, her long black hair flowing with the sculpture’s movement. She holds her electric bass in front of her, with the strap slung over her shoulder, whilst a cable completes the depiction of the instrument. The slightly swaying pose and flowing hair lend movement to the overall design whilst retaining the character’s characteristic reserved demeanour.

Character background and lore

Mio Akiyama is one of the main heroines of K-ON!. She originally planned to join the literature club, but her childhood friend Ritsu Tainaka eventually persuaded her to join the light music club instead. A serious and hard-working student, Mio is also particularly shy: the official TBS profile states that she chose the bass rather than the guitar because she wanted to avoid drawing too much attention to herself. Nevertheless, she is highly skilled on her instrument.

Alongside Yui Hirasawa, Ritsu Tainaka and Tsumugi Kotobuki, and later Azusa Nakano, Mio is a member of the band Ho-kago Tea Time. The series follows their high school years, their rehearsals, their concerts and their daily lives in the club room. The contrast between Mio’s musical abilities and her reserved nature is one of the character’s recurring traits.
