Hatsune Miku is a virtual singer developed by Crypton Future Media. Originally launched in August 2007 with the VOCALOID2 Hatsune Miku software, she uses a voice bank created from the voice of Japanese actress Saki Fujita. Her official profile describes her as a 16-year-old virtual singer standing 158 cm tall, recognisable in particular by her two long blue-green pigtails.
Her name refers to the idea of the ‘first sound of the future’. Thanks to her voice synthesis software, a large international community of musicians, illustrators and video artists has grown up around the character. Crypton reports that over 100,000 songs and a vast number of visual works have been created featuring Miku, who has gradually become a central figure in virtual singer culture.
Unlike a character belonging to a single narrative, Hatsune Miku can take on numerous costumes and visual identities depending on the artists and collections. Anemone Ver. is precisely one such original interpretation: FuRyu retains Miku’s iconic elements whilst combining them with a floral theme, featuring flowers arranged in her pigtails and a colour palette blending turquoise, white and red.
