TheSorting Hat is an artefact with a mind of its own, once belonging to Godric Gryffindor, whose historic role is to sort new Hogwarts students into the school’s four houses. Every year, at the welcome banquet, it sings a new song celebrating its infallible wisdom before analysing the spirit of each budding wizard. Whether it perceives the courage of Gryffindor, the loyalty of Hufflepuff, the erudition of Ravenclaw or the ambition of Slytherin, its verdict is final and dictates the students’ destiny.
