Character background and lore

Sirius Black comes from one of the oldest families of pure-blood wizards, but rejected his family’s beliefs at an early age and was sorted into Gryffindor upon his arrival at Hogwarts. There, he quickly became best friends with James Potter and, together with James, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew, formed the group known as the Marauders. Later, he also became Harry Potter’s godfather.

When Remus’s three friends discover his lycanthropy, Sirius, James and Peter secretly learn to become undeclared Animagi so that they can accompany him during his transformations. Sirius then takes the form of a large black dog, which earns him the nickname Padfoot.

The four friends used their many explorations of Hogwarts to create the Marauder’s Map, a magical parchment capable of revealing the castle’s layout and tracking the movements of its occupants. The map is based, in particular, on the Homunculus Charm and recognises the four creators by their nicknames: Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs.

As an adult, Sirius joins the Order of the Phoenix to fight against Voldemort. Wrongly accused of betraying James and Lily Potter and of committing the crimes of Peter Pettigrew, he is imprisoned in Azkaban before managing to escape. He then reunites with Harry and resumes his role in the fight against Voldemort.

This POP! Movies No. 222 thus takes us back to Sirius’s younger years, highlighting his identity as Padfoot, his membership of the Marauders and his role in creating the Marauder’s Map.
