GUNDAM - EX 1/144 SCALE MODEL KIT EX MODEL YMT05 HILDOLFR

GUNDAM MS IGLOO – YMT-05 Hildolfr – EX Model 1/144

Rediscover one of the most unusual machines of the Universal Century with the YMT-05 Hildolfr, brought to you by Bandai as part of the EX Model range in 1/144 scale. Straight from *Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO: The Hidden One Year War*, this imposing Zeon experimental vehicle combines the appearance of a heavy tank with certain characteristics of a Mobile Suit, making for a particularly original model within a Gundam collection.

Measuring approximately 25 cm in length in Tank configuration, the model stands out for its impressive size despite its 1/144 scale, and for the level of detail applied to its armour, tracks, massive main gun and numerous mechanical components. The surfaces of the tracks, in particular, feature a textured finish designed to enhance their realistic appearance.

The model allows you to recreate the Hildolfr’s two characteristic configurations. By swapping certain parts, you can switch from Tank Form—streamlined for ground combat—to Mobile Form, in which the upper section of the machine unfolds. The two excavator arms can also be articulated to recreate various combat scenes seen in the OVA.

Bandai has paid particular attention to the mechanical details of this model. The main gun’s cartridge ejection system features detailed moulding, the single eye is represented by a transparent part, and several movable elements allow for varied displays of the model. A machine gun and various hands designed for the Mobile configuration are also included.

The kit also includes five 1/144-scale figures: the pilot, Demeziere Sonnen, and four ground crew members. These small figures help to emphasise the Hildolfr’s immense scale and enable you to create a genuine diorama inspired by MS IGLOO.

A sheet of water-slide decals completes the set, providing the markings needed to finish the vehicle. Additional markings also allow you to customise an HGUC Zaku II to resemble the Semovente Corps machines encountered by the Hildolfr in the original work; the Zaku II is sold separately.

Developed by the Principality of Zeon, the YMT-05 Hildolfr is an experimental prototype classified as a ‘Mobile Tank’. Measuring over 35 metres in length within the Gundam universe and weighing approximately 220 tonnes, it combines an extremely massive tracked chassis with a powerful reactor and a large-calibre main gun. It was designed to provide Zeon with a ground-based artillery platform capable of combining firepower, mobility and certain capabilities normally reserved for Mobile Suits.

In *Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO: The Hidden One Year War*, the Hildolfr is entrusted to the veteran Demeziere Sonnen and evaluated by Zeon’s 603rd Technical Evaluation Unit. Sent to Earth at a time when the development of Mobile Suits was already rendering its concept almost obsolete, this experimental machine nevertheless demonstrated formidable combat capabilities. Its clash with Zaku IIs captured by Federation forces is one of the most memorable sequences in MS IGLOO and has made the Hildolfr a machine particularly cherished by fans of military vehicles in the Gundam universe.
