Character background and universe (Lore)

Destro, whose real name is James McCullen, is one of the major characters in the G.I. Joe universe. As head of M.A.R.S. Industries, a company specialising in the manufacture and sale of advanced weaponry, he is also the commander of the Iron Grenadiers, a private military force under his control.

Although long associated with Cobra and acting as Cobra Commander’s arms supplier, Destro nevertheless pursues his own objectives. His alliance with Cobra is based more on shared interests than on genuine loyalty, and the two men’s ambitions regularly clash.

This version depicts him in his full Iron Grenadiers commander’s uniform, as he seeks to expand his influence independently of Cobra. The Despoiler is his personal combat vehicle, designed to enable him to lead his troops directly into the field whilst deploying a substantial arsenal of missiles.

The Classified Series set thus modernises one of the classic incarnations of Destro and his Despoiler by adapting their design to the 15 cm scale and the contemporary level of detail characteristic of the range.
