GI JOE - Daina of the October Guard - Fig. Classified Series #231 15cm

This Hasbro G.I. Joe Classified Series No. 231 action figure depicts Daina, a sniper from the October Guard, also historically known as the Oktober Guard. Measuring approximately 15 cm, it reimagines this classic G.I. Joe character in the modern style of the Classified Series, featuring detailed sculpting, numerous points of articulation and seven accessories inspired by her roles as a sniper and pilot.

Daina wears a field outfit comprising a white vest, an olive-green tactical harness, camouflage trousers, knee pads and black combat boots. Her head is notably depicted wearing a brown cap adorned with a winged insignia, beneath which her light-coloured hair is visible. Her face has a focused expression and features a small scar above her right eyebrow.

The figure also includes an alternative hairpiece allowing Daina to be displayed without her cap, with a short blonde hairstyle. Her equipment includes a rucksack and several weapon accessories, including a long gun fitted with a scope. Hasbro has announced a total of seven accessories, though it has not officially detailed each one in the European product listing.

Like the other figures in the Classified Series, Daina features multiple points of articulation, allowing for shooting, combat or observation poses. The No. 231 window box showcases the figure and her kit, whilst incorporating character profile symbols and an original illustration dedicated to Daina.

Character background and universe (Lore)

Daina is one of the founding members of the Oktober Guard, an elite unit created as the Eastern counterpart to the G.I. Joe team in the A Real American Hero universe. She is part of the original line-up alongside Colonel Brekhov, Horrorshow, Schrage and Stormavik. The team first appears in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero No. 6, originally published in 1982, when the Joes and the Oktober Guard find themselves engaged in the same operation centred on a technological prototype coveted by Cobra.

In the classic continuity, Daina is portrayed as a Czech sniper and a highly experienced helicopter pilot. She is also the only woman in the original Oktober Guard line-up. Hasbro retains these fundamental elements in its new Classified Series version, describing her as a world-class sniper whose piloting skills can also determine the outcome of a battle.

Hasbro also presents her as one of the most tactically astute members of the October Guard after her commander. She regularly takes on a role akin to that of second-in-command, despite a reputation for being particularly difficult to get on with and having a sharp tongue. Her comrades, however, readily accept this temperament when her accuracy or piloting skills become essential to the success of a mission.

This Classified Series No. 231 figure thus offers a modernised take on the character whilst retaining her identity as a military specialist: her field uniform, sniper equipment, rucksack and display options are a direct nod to the role Daina has played within the Oktober Guard since her first appearances in the G.I. Joe universe.
