GARGOYLES - Goliath - Statue Art Scale 1/10 36.2cm

Iron Studios has dedicated a 1/10 Art Scale figurine to Goliath, the iconic leader of the Manhattan Clan in the Disney animated series *Gargoyles*. Standing approximately 36.2 cm tall, this polystone piece depicts the winged warrior in an imposing pose, perched on a piece of Gothic architecture and ready to take flight to defend his territory.

Goliath is depicted with his wings spread wide, highlighting his wingspan and powerful musculature. The sculpture captures his purple skin, long black hair, pointed ears, claws and the large, membranous wings characteristic of the character. His stern expression and tense posture reflect his role as a warrior and protector of the clan.

The plinth replicates part of the Gothic architecture associated with the clan’s castle, with sculpted surfaces evoking stone. This design makes a direct reference to the Scottish castle of Wyvern, rebuilt centuries later at the top of David Xanatos’s skyscraper in Manhattan. The overall design creates a vertical composition suited to the Art Scale format and display in a showcase.

Made primarily from polystone, the figurine is hand-painted. It is entirely static and prioritises the precision of the sculpting, textures and volumes over articulation. Measuring approximately 36.2 x 26.2 x 21.3 cm, it has a commanding presence despite its 1/10 scale.

Character background and lore

Goliath is the leader of the gargoyles who protect Wyvern Castle in Scotland in the year 994. In the world of Gargoyles, these creatures are active at night but turn to stone at sunrise. Following a betrayal by humans that led to the destruction of much of his clan, Goliath and a few survivors fell victim to a spell condemning them to remain petrified until their castle rose above the clouds.

A millennium later, the billionaire David Xanatos buys the castle and has it rebuilt at the top of his skyscraper in New York. This breaks the spell and awakens Goliath, along with Hudson, Brooklyn, Broadway, Lexington and Bronx. The survivors must then adapt to modern-day Manhattan whilst uncovering Xanatos’s true intentions.

Goliath becomes the leader of the Manhattan Clan and gradually comes to regard the entire island as the territory he must protect. Powerful, intelligent and deeply committed to his sense of honour, he uses his claws to fight and scale buildings, whilst his large wings allow him to glide. Like the other gargoyles, he turns to stone during the day before coming back to life at nightfall.

His encounter with Inspector Elisa Maza plays a decisive role in his development. Their alliance helps him regain his trust in humans and broaden his understanding of what he must protect. Goliath thus becomes not only the guardian of his clan, but also one of Manhattan’s nocturnal defenders against both human and supernatural threats. This Iron Studios figurine captures precisely this image of the character: a protector perched high above the city, ready to leap from the Gothic architecture reminiscent of his former home.
