Origin and lore of House Stark

House Stark of Winterfell is one of the Great Houses of Westeros and the principal dynasty of the North. Its origins date back to the Age of Heroes and are traditionally associated with Brandon the Builder. For millennia, the Starks reigned as Kings in Winter, before becoming Lords of Winterfell and Guardians of the North following Aegon Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros.
