Based on Dragon Ball Z, this Banpresto figurine depicts Majin Buu in his Pure form, also known as Kid Buu. Part of the MATCH MAKERS collection, it is the first half of a pair designed to be displayed alongside Majin Buu (Good) – Match Makers 2/2.
Majin Buu is depicted in a particularly dynamic fighting pose, his body leaning to one side and one leg raised in front of him as if he had just delivered a powerful kick. His arms are drawn in close to his chest whilst his face wears a broad, menacing smile. The sculpture captures his pink skin dotted with black pores, the elongated appendage atop his skull, and his physique, which is slimmer and more muscular than that of Majin Buu (Good).
His distinctive outfit is faithfully reproduced, featuring loose-fitting white trousers, black arm and leg guards edged in gold at the wrists and ankles, khaki boots and a black belt adorned with a gold buckle bearing the ‘M’ symbol of Majin. The suspended, highly compact pose gives the figure a strong sense of movement despite its compact 13 cm size.
The ‘1/2’ marking does not refer to a scale: it identifies this figure as the first half of a two-piece set. The second is Majin Buu (Good) Match Makers 2/2, approximately 20 cm tall and sold separately. The two models are designed to be positioned facing each other to recreate their battle.
Majin Buu (Pure) is Majin Buu’s original form and one of the final major adversaries in Dragon Ball Z. Unlike Majin Buu (Good), whose personality has been influenced by the beings he has absorbed throughout his story, this form returns to the Majin’s primitive, unpredictable and destructive nature. The official Dragon Ball website confirms that after Vegito freed the warriors absorbed by Super Buu, Majin Buu (Good) separated from him and Buu reverted to his original, pure form.
This transformation leads to the final showdown against Son Goku and Vegeta in the Realm of the Kaioshin. Majin Buu (Pure) is then characterised by his chaotic behaviour and destructive power, going so far as to obliterate the Earth. Goku eventually confronts him with the help of Vegeta, Mr Satan and the inhabitants of Earth, whose energy is used to form a gigantic Genki-Dama.
After his defeat, Goku expresses the wish that one day he might face him again in a stronger form. Majin Buu (Pure) is eventually reincarnated as Uub, a young human whom Goku meets several years later and decides to train.
This MATCH MAKERS figurine, however, refers to another moment involving Buu’s various incarnations: it is specifically designed to be paired with Majin Buu (Good), the second piece in the duo, so that the character’s two forms can be placed side by side.
