The Ichibansho collection from Banpresto / Bandai Spirits traces the key milestones in Son Goku’s story through the series *The Chronicle of Goku*. This figurine, measuring approximately 21 cm, features Bulma as she appeared in the very first chapters of Dragon Ball, when she set out on her journey in search of the seven Dragon Balls.
Bulma is depicted standing, with one hand on her hip whilst the other holds her Dragon Radar. The sculpture captures her iconic look from the start of the series: turquoise-blue hair tied back in a ponytail with a large red bow, big blue eyes and a look of surprise. She wears a pink T-shirt dress bearing the word ‘BULMA’, a purple scarf around her neck, and a belt featuring a blue pouch and a case.
Her blue ankle boots, purple gaiters and brown glove complete this adventurer’s outfit. The back of the dress also bears the number 97, which is visible on the figure. The decision to incorporate the Dragon Radar directly into the pose reinforces the link to the beginning of the story, as this device, invented by Bulma, was the catalyst for her first encounter with Goku.
Standing 21 cm tall, this figurine is large enough to showcase the details of the outfit whilst remaining easy to display. It naturally complements the other characters and transformations from The Chronicle of Goku series, notably Great Ape Son Goku.
Bulma is one of the very first characters in Dragon Ball and plays a pivotal role in setting the whole adventure in motion. At the start of the manga, she is a 16-year-old girl from West City. After discovering the two-star Dragon Ball in her family’s cellar and learning that gathering all seven Dragon Balls summons Shenron and grants a wish, she decides to set out in search of them.
A particularly gifted scientist and inventor, Bulma develops the Dragon Radar, a device capable of detecting the faint electromagnetic signals emitted by the Dragon Balls. Her radar leads her to the home of the young Son Goku, who possesses the four-star Dragon Ball once given to him by his grandfather, Son Gohan.
Their first encounter is eventful: Goku, who has hardly ever left the mountains, initially mistakes Bulma’s vehicle for a creature and attacks it. Bulma quickly realises that the boy possesses exceptional strength and offers him the chance to accompany her on her quest as her bodyguard. This encounter between the tech-savvy city girl and the naive young boy from the mountains marks the true starting point of the Dragon Ball story.
This ‘The Chronicle of Goku’ figurine captures precisely this formative period. The Dragon Radar, the pink dress, the red bow and the travelling gear encapsulate the image of Bulma from the early episodes: an adventurous young inventor whose quest for the Dragon Balls leads to her meeting Goku and sets the entire saga in motion.
