Character background and lore

Marie is one of Duchess’s three kittens in the classic Disney animated film *The Aristocats*, released in 1970. She lives in Paris with her mother and her two brothers, Berlioz and Toulouse, in the home of a wealthy landlady who wishes to bequeath her fortune to her cats. This decision angers her butler, Edgar, who seeks to get rid of the cats in order to claim the inheritance.

After being driven from their home, Duchesse and her three kittens must find their way back through the countryside and then across Paris. They then meet Thomas O’Malley, a resourceful street cat who decides to help them. Their journey also brings them into contact with several musical cats, giving the film its distinctive blend of adventure, humour and jazz.

Marie is easily recognisable by her entirely white coat and her pink accessories. Disney continues to feature her alongside Berlioz and Toulouse in various spin-off stories dedicated to the three kittens, notably the book series *The Aristokittens*. This Simba Toys soft toy faithfully recreates her classic appearance and key visual features.
