Character background and lore

Shinobu Kocho is one of the nine Hashira, the elite fighters of the Demon Slayer Corps. She holds the title of Insect Hashira and is distinguished by a fighting style very different from that of the other Hashira.

Lacking the physical strength required to behead demons directly, Shinobu has developed a method based on speed, precision and the use of glycine-based poisons. Her Nichirin sword has a distinctive shape, suited to thrusting attacks that allow her to inject these poisons into her opponents.

Behind her calm smile and polite demeanour lies a deep-seated anger towards demons, linked in particular to the death of her sister, Kanae Kocho. This duality between apparent gentleness and relentless determination is one of the defining features of her personality.

Thanks to her butterfly-inspired design, her intelligence and her unique fighting style, Shinobu Kocho has become one of the most iconic characters in Demon Slayer and one of the Hashira most beloved by fans.
