Origin and backstory (Lore)

Superman is one of the founding characters of the DC Comics universe. Born on the planet Krypton as Kal-El, he was sent to Earth shortly before the destruction of his homeworld and was taken in by Jonathan and Martha Kent in Smallville.

Raised under the identity of Clark Kent, he gradually discovers the extraordinary abilities bestowed upon him by Earth’s environment. His powers include superhuman strength and stamina, flight, exceptional speed and various forms of enhanced vision.

Having become a journalist at the Daily Planet in Metropolis, Clark uses his powers under the identity of Superman to protect the public. His red and yellow emblem, his cape and his blue costume have become some of the most recognisable symbols of superhero culture.

The ‘New 52’ era, launched by DC Comics in 2011, introduced a new continuity for many of the publisher’s characters and modernised Superman’s appearance. The costume depicted on this keyring is inspired by this interpretation of the character.
