Origin and backstory (Lore)
Created in 1938 by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Superman is the very first superhero in the history of comics and the undisputed icon of DC Comics. Born Kal-El on the dying, technologically advanced planet Krypton, he was sent to Earth by his parents just before his homeworld exploded. Taken in by a kind-hearted farming couple from Kansas, Jonathan and Martha Kent, he grew up as Clark Kent whilst discovering that the radiation from our yellow sun granted him god-like powers.
Under the influence of Earth’s atmosphere, he develops Herculean physical strength, total invulnerability, the ability to fly at supersonic speeds, as well as thermal vision and a freezing breath. Having become a shy journalist at the Daily Planet to conceal his secret identity, he dons his red and blue costume to defend humanity against threats such as Lex Luthor or Brainiac. This version from the New Classics range perfectly captures his timeless costume, his flowing red cape and the iconic emblem of the House of El (the ‘S’ standing for ‘Hope’) on his chest, evoking the legacy of Earth’s greatest protector.
