Character background and lore
Cordelia Chase appears right from the start of *Buffy the Vampire Slayer*. A pupil at Sunnydale High School, she is initially portrayed as one of the most popular girls in the school and leads a group of pupils known as the Cordettes.
Very self-assured, outspoken and often sarcastic, Cordelia initially places great importance on popularity, fashion and social status. She has an often conflict-ridden relationship with Buffy, Willow and Xander, whom she initially regards as far less popular than herself.
Her repeated encounters with vampires, demons and other supernatural phenomena in Sunnydale gradually bring her closer to Buffy’s group. Despite her sharp remarks and strong-willed nature, Cordelia takes part in several battles against supernatural forces and eventually becomes a full member of the Scooby Gang.
She also develops a romantic relationship with Xander Harris, despite their very different personalities and social backgrounds. This relationship leads her, in particular, to distance herself from her former circle of friends and contributes to the character’s development over the course of the first three series.
After graduating from Sunnydale High, Cordelia leaves the town and moves to Los Angeles. Her story then continues in the spin-off series *Angel*, where she joins Angel Investigations. Her development gradually moves her away from her initial image as a superficial schoolgirl, transforming her into a character far more committed to the fight against supernatural forces.
This POP! Television No. 1960 captures Cordelia’s appearance during her *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* days, featuring an elegant outfit and a handbag that directly evoke her signature style at Sunnydale High.
