Taken from *Berserk*, this Banpresto figurine depicts Guts, the legendary warrior known as the Black Swordsman, as part of the Grandista collection. Standing approximately 23 cm tall, this item is part 1/2 of a two-part set dedicated to the character. It comprises the main body of Guts, whilst his right arm and his Dragon Slayer sword are sold separately as Grandista 2/2.
Guts is depicted in imposing black armour, with a massive silhouette dominated by overlapping metal plates and a long, dark cape with irregular contours. The sculpt highlights the character’s build, the various pieces of armour, and the particularly dark aesthetic characteristic of Berserk. Several retailers identify this appearance as that of Guts in Berserker Armour, with its more beast-like and aggressive design.
Guts is the protagonist of Berserk, a dark fantasy manga created by Kentaro Miura. Known by the nickname ‘Black Swordsman’, he is portrayed as a warrior scarred by countless battles, armed with a gigantic sword and a prosthetic arm. His body also bears the Mark of Sacrifice, which constantly draws creatures from the supernatural world towards him.
His past is notably linked to the Band of the Falcon and its leader, Griffith. After spending several years as a mercenary within the group, Guts experiences the traumatic events of the Eclipse, which irrevocably transform his life and set him on a long journey marked by revenge, battles against the Apostles and his determination to protect Casca. Dark Horse describes his journey as that of a warrior who refuses to accept the fate imposed upon him by the Mark of Sacrifice.
The Dragon Slayer sword becomes Guts’s iconic weapon during this period. Of immense size and weight, it accompanies the Black Swordsman in his battles against supernatural foes and is one of the most recognisable visual symbols of Berserk. For this Grandista release, Banpresto has chosen to dedicate a second 2/2 box set to him, featuring his right arm, designed to complement this 1/2-scale Guts figurine.
