Origin and background of the character
Released in 1959, Sleeping Beauty is a visual and musical masterpiece from Disney Studios, renowned for its medieval aesthetic inspired by Gothic tapestries. Maleficent, the dark fairy who proclaims herself the ‘mistress of all evil’, is the film’s main antagonist. Deeply offended at not having been invited to Princess Aurora’s christening, she casts a deadly curse on the newborn, condemning the young girl to prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel on her sixteenth birthday and fall into an eternal sleep. Capable of transforming into a gigantic dragon that breathes violet flames, Maleficent is one of the darkest, most charismatic and fearsome figures in the Disney Villains franchise. This exclusive ‘Stained Glass’ edition captures her malevolent aura through a poetic, translucent background, ideal for enhancing the collection of classic animation enthusiasts.
