This Hasbro Transformers Studio Series Leader Class figure depicts Dinobot Swoop in his design inspired by the animated film *The Transformers: The Movie*. Character background and universe (Lore)

Swoop belongs to the Dinobots, a group of Autobots whose alternate modes are inspired by prehistoric creatures. In his official Generation 1 profile, Hasbro classifies him as a ‘Dinobot Bombardier’ and gives him a pterodactyl alternate mode. He is described as one of the friendliest members of the team, whilst still remaining highly effective in combat when he swoops down on his opponents from the air.

This aerial capability sets Swoop apart from the other Dinobots. His arsenal includes two missile launchers, used to attack targets from a distance, whilst his flying mode allows him to strike swiftly from the air. His combination of mobility and power thus brings an aerial dimension to the group that his ground-based partners lack.

*The Transformers: The Movie*, released in 1986, serves as a direct sequel to the Generation 1 animated series. The story pits the Autobots against the Decepticons whilst introducing the threat of Unicron, a gigantic Transformer capable of devouring planets. Swoop appears in the film alongside the other Dinobots and retains his classic appearance as well as his transformation into a flying creature.
