Discover the mysterious Decepticon Bug Bite with this transformable figure from Hasbro’s Transformers Retro G1 collection. Standing approximately 10 cm tall in robot mode, it combines a modern, articulated design with packaging directly inspired by Generation 1 toys.
Bug Bite features a predominantly black and white colour scheme that immediately evokes his iconic appearance as Bumblebee’s dark counterpart. Its compact silhouette mirrors the classic proportions of a small, car-type Autobot, whilst its colours and Decepticon affiliation give it an identity deliberately at odds with that of the famous yellow scout.
The figure transforms from robot mode into a sports car in 23 steps. The joints in the head, arms and legs also allow for a variety of poses in robot mode. A retro-style blaster is included and can be attached to the figure in both robot and vehicle modes.
The set is presented in vintage-style packaging inspired by the G1 Transformers boxes. Hasbro has also revived the concept of the old technical data sheets: a Tech Specs card can be cut out and kept to compare the character’s statistics with those of other Retro G1 figures.

Character background and universe (Lore)
The character’s backstory in Transformers has an unusual origin. Bug Bite is directly inspired by a character from GoBots, a former range of transforming robots by Tonka. When the name was incorporated into the Transformers continuity, he became an extremely intelligent but unscrupulous scientist, specialising in appropriating and adapting technologies developed by others.
This incarnation appears notably in the 2007 BotCon ‘Games of Deception’ set. In it, Bug Bite is given a black-and-white body based on Bumblebee’s and officially joins the Decepticons. In this story, he comes from a parallel universe threatened with destruction and seeks to determine why events in the Transformers’ world have caused the catastrophe affecting his own reality.
Far from being truly loyal to Megatron, Bug Bite hatches his own plan. Using modified cerebro-shell technology, he manages to take control of several Decepticons and ultimately attempts to turn Megatron’s forces against their leader. His strategy fails when the Autobots jam the signal controlling the implants and Megatron proves impossible to subdue so easily.
The new G1 Retro figure therefore primarily draws on the visual identity created around this incarnation: a black-and-white robot reminiscent of Bumblebee, but affiliated with the Decepticons and surrounded by a far more sinister aura. Hasbro also retains the character’s mysterious nature in his new backstory, portraying Bug Bite as an agent whose true objectives are unknown even to his own allies.
