Origin and background of the character
The characterSpongeBob SquarePants originates from the famous American animated series created by marine biologist and animator Stephen Hillenburg in 1999 for Nickelodeon. The story is set in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom and follows the zany adventures of a square sponge and his friends. SpongeBob is an endlessly energetic resident and top chef at the Krusty Krab restaurant, who spends his free time hunting jellyfish or getting into hilarious scrapes with Patrick. This figurine is directly inspired by his character design for the franchise’s animated feature film. His pirate costume humorously emphasises his boundless enthusiasm, showing him ready to lead his crew on wild underwater treasure hunts.
