Character background and lore
Since their first appearance in the late 1980s, the Simpson family has parodied the lifestyle of the American middle class in the fictional town of Springfield. Between a lazy, doughnut-loving father (Homer), a devoted mother with blue hair (Marge), a skateboard-loving rascal (Bart), a gifted young saxophonist (Lisa) and a baby with a pacifier permanently attached to her mouth (Maggie), this family’s daily life is never a moment’s rest. A true cultural phenomenon and holder of records for longevity on television, the series dissects pop culture with biting humour and a keen sense of social satire. This writing set celebrates the unique visual identity and irreverent spirit of this landmark work in the history of television series.
