Origin and world of the character (Lore)
Introduced in a major way in The Conjuring cinematic universe before getting her own dedicated films, the Nun is the physical manifestation of a powerful thousand-year-old demon called Valak. Taking on this blasphemous appearance to test and corrupt the faith of its victims, the entity sows death in its wake. In the second opus, The Nun II (2023) directed by Michael Chaves, the story takes place in France in the 1950s, where the demon infests a boarding school for young girls after the suspicious murder of a priest. Hunted once again by Sister Irene, Valak seeks to seize a sacred relic to multiply his powers of possession tenfold, embodying one of the most memorable horror figures in contemporary pop culture.
