FuRyu’s BiCute Bunnies collection focuses on large-scale figurines and specially designed costumes to create a striking display. This design is particularly well-suited to Mikuru, a character who is regularly dragged, against her will, into Haruhi’s extravagant schemes.

Character background and lore

Mikuru Asahina is one of the key members of the SOS Brigade, the club founded by the eccentric Haruhi Suzumiya to search for aliens, time travellers, espers and other unusual phenomena.

At first glance, Mikuru is simply a high school student older than Haruhi and Kyon, known for being particularly shy and reserved. Haruhi nevertheless decides to recruit her into the SOS Brigade and quickly makes her one of the club’s most recognisable figures.

But Mikuru harbours a secret directly linked to the supernatural phenomena Haruhi is investigating: she is, in fact, a time traveller from the future.

Her mission is closely linked to Haruhi Suzumiya. Time travellers regard certain events surrounding Haruhi as essential to the development of their own timeline, which forces Mikuru to observe her daily life closely whilst avoiding revealing too much information about the future.

This constraint explains why Mikuru regularly responds to Kyon’s questions with embarrassed refusals when he tries to find out more about her home time or the true mechanics of time travel.

Her personality contrasts sharply with that of Haruhi. Whilst the leader of the SOS Brigade is energetic, bossy and unpredictable, Mikuru is gentle, hesitant and easily thrown off balance by the outlandish situations in which she finds herself.

Nevertheless, she gradually becomes an important ally to Kyon, who quickly discovers her true nature and finds himself involved in several events linked to time travel.

The existence of an adult Mikuru, encountered at various points in the story, adds an extra dimension to the mystery surrounding her character. These appearances reveal that certain actions carried out by Kyon and the younger Mikuru play a crucial role in the sequence of events. In particular, KADOKAWA’s summaries mention the missions entrusted by the adult Mikuru to Kyon and his younger self.

Mikuru also plays a memorable role in the amateur film made by the SOS Brigade, in which Haruhi casts her in the lead role. This deliberately chaotic production becomes one of the most iconic examples of how Mikuru finds herself dragged into Haruhi’s projects against her will.

This BiCute Bunnies figurine thus offers a fresh take on one of the SOS Brigade’s most iconic characters, whilst retaining the gentleness and reserved demeanour that characterise Mikuru Asahina.
