THE LEGEND OF ZELDA - Rupee Icon - Icon Light Plus

This Icon Light Plus decorative lamp, officially licensed by Nintendo, is inspired by the famous rubies used as currency in The Legend of Zelda universe. Manufactured by Paladone, it features three illuminated rubies arranged on a single base: one green, one blue and one red. The set measures approximately 30 cm in width and serves as a mood light for a desk, a shelf or a gaming area. The BEM’S product details confirm that it is made of plastic with LED lighting.

The three rubies are reproduced as large, translucent, faceted gems, each emitting its own colour when lit. They rest on a long grey base decorated with a relief of the Coat of Arms of Hyrule, featuring the Triforce in the centre and geometric patterns on either side. The combination of green, blue and red directly references the different ruby colours featured in the Zelda games.

The lamp offers three distinct lighting modes: steady light, a gradual colour cycle and a music-responsive mode. In the latter mode, the lighting effects react to surrounding sounds, allowing the lamp to be integrated into a gaming setup or a musical atmosphere. Official Paladone images also indicate a width of 30 cm for the unit.

This product is part of Paladone’s Icon Light Plus range, which transforms iconic symbols from video game franchises into larger-scale decorative light fittings. The three rubies displayed together immediately bring to mind one of the oldest and most recurring mechanics in *The Legend of Zelda*.

Origin and lore of the franchise

Rubies, or ‘Rupees’ in English, are the traditional currency of the Kingdom of Hyrule and feature in many of the *The Legend of Zelda* games. Nintendo describes them as sparkling gems of various colours and sizes, the value of which varies according to their appearance. Link can find them in chests, receive them as a reward for helping villagers, or collect them whilst exploring.

Colour is traditionally an indicator of value. In several instalments of the series, including *Spirit Tracks*, a green ruby is worth 1 ruby, a blue one 5 rubies and a red one 20 rubies. These three colours correspond precisely to the three gems depicted on this Paladone lamp.

Rubies allow Link to purchase equipment, consumables or various services necessary for his adventure. Having featured since the earliest instalments of the series, they have gradually become as recognisable as hearts, the Triforce or the Master Sword in the iconography of The Legend of Zelda. This Icon Light Plus lamp thus directly translates Hyrule’s currency system into a light-up object, bringing together three of the saga’s most familiar and iconic colours.
