Officially licensed by Star Wars, this Cotton Division hoodie pays tribute to Darth Vader with a retro design inspired by the aesthetic of the original trilogy.
The front is deliberately understated, featuring a small Galactic Empire emblem centred on the chest, surrounded by a red and white circular border. The hoodie features a drawstring hood and a front kangaroo pocket. Its dark, slightly distressed fabric finish accentuates the retro look of the design.
The back features the main illustration: Darth Vader using the Force, with one hand outstretched before him, surrounded by circular lines and silhouettes of TIE fighters. The name ‘VADER’ dominates the upper section in red and white lettering, whilst the STAR WARS logo, accompanied by the date 1977, appears below. This date refers to the year the first Star Wars film was released in cinemas and serves here as a commemorative graphic element of the design.
Darth Vader was once Anakin Skywalker, a Jedi Knight and hero of the Clone Wars. After being gradually drawn to the dark side by Darth Sidious, Anakin became his Sith apprentice. Seriously injured during his duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar, he survived thanks to imposing black armour and a breathing apparatus, which became an integral part of his visual identity.
In the service of the Galactic Empire, Vader acts as one of the Emperor’s chief enforcers, hunting down both the surviving Jedi and members of the Rebel Alliance. In particular, he masters the Force, which he uses both to move objects and to immobilise or strangle his opponents from a distance. The hand gesture reproduced on the back of this hoodie is a direct reference to this aspect of the character.
The year ‘1977’ refers to the release of the first Star Wars film, now titled Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, in which Darth Vader made his cinematic debut. The garment’s design thus combines his iconic image with a retro aesthetic directly linked to the origins of the saga.
