Origin and background of the character
Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk for Netflix, the South Korean dystopian drama series Squid Game has made television history by becoming a massive global hit. The plot plunges cash-strapped participants into a secret competition based on traditional children’s games, where defeat means immediate death. Chul-Su is the male robotic doll that echoes the famous and terrifying giant Young-Hee doll from the ‘One, Two, Three, Sun’ challenge. Drawn from classic illustrations in Korean school textbooks from the 1970s and 1980s, this pair of characters embodies the innocence of childhood, twisted in a macabre way to orchestrate bloody eliminations. This Funko Pop! figurine captures, with uncanny accuracy, its retro look and fixed gaze – a must-have for all fans of this major television series.
