Origin and character lore
Created in 1991 for Sega’s Mega Drive console, Sonic the Hedgehog is an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog capable of breaking the sound barrier. Having become the Japanese company’s undisputed global mascot, he relentlessly battles the infamous Dr Eggman (Robotnik), a mad scientist who seeks to enslave the world by turning innocent little animals into robots. Always accompanied by his loyal allies, such as the two-tailed fox Miles ‘Tails’ Prower and the mighty Knuckles the Echidna, Sonic embodies the spirit of freedom, pure speed and justice. This set of magnets celebrates the cool attitude and vibrant world of a legendary saga which, from collecting golden rings to the quest for the Chaos Emeralds, continues to have players across the globe racing and dreaming.
