Origin and world of the character
Rem comes from the famous light novel Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World, written by Tappei Nagatsuki and illustrated by Shin'ichirō Ōtsuka, which was adapted into an animated TV series with worldwide success. The plot follows Subaru Natsuki, a young high school student transported to a fantasy world where he discovers he possesses the power to resurrect by returning to the past every time he dies. On his journey, he meets Rem, a young blue-haired ogress who works as a maid at the prestigious manor of Roswaal L. Mathers alongside her twin sister Ram. Initially distrustful and ruthless, Rem develops an unconditional love, absolute loyalty and total devotion to Subaru, supporting him at the risk of her life in Dantean battles with the Witch Cult. Her big heart, vulnerability and strength in battle have made her one of the most beloved and popular female icons in the modern history of Japanese animation.
