This MegaHouse articulated figurine depicts Edward Newgate, better known as Whitebeard, from the Variable Action Heroes range. This new Ver.1.5 edition retains the imposing 24 cm figure dedicated to the captain of the Whitebeard Pirates, whilst introducing a significant change to his outfit: his famous captain’s coat is now made of fabric and can be removed, offering greater freedom for different poses.
The sculpt captures Edward Newgate’s massive build, with his bare torso, numerous scars, light-coloured trousers held up by a wide dark belt, high black boots and his iconic crescent-shaped white moustache. His white coat, lined in red and adorned with golden epaulettes, bears the Whitebeard Pirates’ emblem on the back. The new fabric construction allows the garment to follow the figure’s movements more naturally when posed.
Whitebeard is accompanied by his long naginata, a weapon directly associated with the character, as well as several interchangeable parts. Two facial expressions are provided to change his appearance, whilst different hands allow for variations in his grip on the weapon or his fighting stances. Two striking translucent effects also represent the power of the Quake Fruit and enable you to recreate the attacks in which Newgate appears to shatter the air itself.
The Variable Action Heroes range is designed around a joint system that allows for extensive adjustment of the character’s pose. Despite Whitebeard’s particularly massive proportions, the figure can thus be displayed standing with his naginata, in lower combat stances, or with both arms outstretched and the effects of the Gura Gura no Mi attached to his fists. MegaHouse describes this collection as a range combining realistic sculpting, detailed painting and numerous posing possibilities.

Character background and lore
Edward Newgate, nicknamed Whitebeard, is the captain of the Whitebeard Pirates and one of the most legendary figures of the Golden Age of Piracy in One Piece. He was one of the Four Emperors and was regarded as ‘the strongest man in the world’. His bounty stood at 5,046,000,000 berrys, one of the highest ever revealed in the series.
Long before the time of Monkey D. Luffy, Newgate was already capable of facing Gol D. Roger on equal terms. Unlike many pirates who sought above all wealth or domination, his personal ambition was, above all, to have a family. His crew members were therefore regarded as his ‘sons’, and they affectionately called him ‘Father’.
Whitebeard possesses the Gura Gura no Mi, or Quake-Quake Fruit, a Devil Fruit that allows him to generate gigantic vibrations and shockwaves. He can make the air, the earth and even the sea tremble, generating a destructive force powerful enough to cause earthquakes and tidal waves. The two large translucent effects included with this Variable Action Heroes figure accurately reproduce the visual manifestation of this power around his fists.
He plays a central role during the Battle of Marineford, where he and his allies face off against the Navy’s forces in order to save Portgas D. Ace, commander of his Second Division. Despite his advanced age and severely deteriorating health, Whitebeard still demonstrates exceptional power during this battle and fights to the very end to protect those he regards as his children.
