Narrative context and universe (Lore)
In theOne Piece timeline, Gear 5 represents the ultimate awakening of the protagonist Monkey D. Luffy’s physical abilities, which first occurred during his final duel against Emperor Kaido at the summit of the Onigashima fortress. This event reveals to the world the true nature of his Devil Fruit, which is not the Paramecia-typeGomu Gomu no Mibut a mythological Zoan-type fruit known as theHito Hito no Mi, Nika model, directly linked to the legendary figure of the Sun God and the God of Liberation.
The Future of Imagination - Last Battlefigurine series captures the aesthetic and freedom of movement inherent in this form. When Gear 5 is activated, Luffy’s heart beats in time with the ‘Drums of Liberation’, turning his hair and clothes completely white. His elastic abilities stretch disproportionately to his surroundings, allowing him to fight without regard for the constraints of traditional physics whilst maintaining a cheerful and expressive demeanour inspired by the conventions of retro cartoons.
