Based on the One Piece series, this Banpresto figurine depicts Boa Hancock, captain of the Kuja Pirates and Empress of Amazon Lily, in a Grandista Special Edition version. Standing approximately 28 cm tall, this version stands out thanks to a much more dynamic pose than the character’s classic Grandista figure: here, Hancock is directly using her Mero Mero no Mi ability, depicted as an imposing translucent pink heart-shaped effect.
Boa Hancock wears her signature outfit, consisting of a short red top edged with pink, a long red split-front garment decorated with large green and white floral patterns, and a draped pink sash. A long light-blue cape flows down behind her, whilst her red high heels, large gold earrings and long black hair complete her look. Her hair is sculpted to look as though it is in motion, reinforcing the sense of action conveyed by the figure as a whole.
The main feature of this Special Edition is the attack effect positioned in front of the character. Hancock stretches both arms forward and forms a heart with her hands, whilst several translucent pink hearts pierced by stylised arrows unfurl before her. This composition directly evokes the use of her Mero Mero Mellow attack, linked to the powers of her Devil Fruit. The Grandista format lends a striking presence to both the character and this visual effect.
Boa Hancock is the captain of the Kuja Pirates and the Empress of Amazon Lily, the island populated exclusively by women located in the Calm Belt. Nicknamed the ‘Pirate Empress’, she was also one of the Seven Great Corsairs. The official One Piece profile currently lists her bounty as 1,659,000,000 berries.
Hancock possesses the powers of the Mero Mero no Mi, a Devil Fruit that enables her, amongst other things, to petrify those susceptible to her charms. Her fighting style combines this ability with her considerable physical prowess and various techniques that often take the form of hearts. The translucent effect reproduced on this Grandista Special Edition directly reflects this aspect of her powers.
When she first met Monkey D. Luffy, Hancock was initially hostile, but eventually fell in love with him. She then decided to help him in his attempt to save Portgas D. Ace, going so far as to respond to the Navy’s summons and take part in the Battle of Marineford. After the conflict, she also allows the seriously injured Luffy to stay at Amazon Lily on an exceptional basis whilst he recovers.
This Grandista Special Edition therefore chooses to highlight not only Boa Hancock’s elegant appearance, but above all her fighting side, with a direct depiction of one of the most recognisable effects of the Mero Mero no Mi.
