Character background and universe (Lore)

Izuku Midoriya is the main protagonist of My Hero Academia, a manga created by Kohei Horikoshi. Born without a Quirk in a world where the majority of the population possesses a power, he has nevertheless dreamt since childhood of becoming a professional hero in the image of his idol, All Might.

His determination and heroic instinct eventually catch All Might’s attention, and he chooses to pass on his power – the legendary One For All – to Izuku. This Quirk accumulates and passes on exceptional physical strength from one user to the next, but requires considerable training to be mastered without endangering the user’s body.

Admitted to the prestigious Yuei Academy, Midoriya gradually learns to control his power whilst developing his own fighting style. A keen observer, he constantly analyses the abilities of his allies and opponents, using his tactical intelligence as much as his power.

Brave, selfless and deeply determined to save others, Izuku Midoriya embodies the heroic ideal at the heart of My Hero Academia. His journey from a powerless teenager to a hero capable of carrying on the legacy of One For All is one of the series’ central themes.
